Final Year (Still Life)

I created this artwork as my final project for an art class. The concept involved arranging a still life to emphasize the interplay of light and shadow. The image reflects my experience of playing basketball in college. The unplugged headphones signify the end of my college journey and the realization that I can no longer participate in college basketball. Meanwhile, the flowers in the background represent my senior night, marking my last home game and the transition into graduation and the next chapter of my life.

I created this artwork during a five-week class at the Asheville Fine Arts League over the summer. Unfortunately, I couldn't complete my art class in the spring semester because of an injury. The experience at the fine arts league was invaluable, as it taught me how to effectively capture light and shadow in my pieces.

What Path Will You Take

The concept for this piece is that throughout life, there are challenges and triumphs, and it's how we respond to these struggles that defines us, hence the title, What Path Will You Take? We all have a choice when faced with adversity: to let the adversity overcome us or to overcome adversity.

In my life drawing class, we were tasked with finding an image of a subject in a pose and then recreating that pose as ourselves. I chose "The Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough for this project. It was an intriguing assignment that offered a fresh experience I had never encountered before.
